Sydney goes Bananas for Inspire’s Big Screens

Sydney residents are no strangers to stunts, but when a five tonne mountain of fresh bananas was dropped outside of Customs House in Circular Quay to celebrate the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns from Nintendo, eyebrows were raised.

In December 2010 Inspire partnered with Mark Communications and Nintendo Australia to take on the hairy task of launching the Donkey Kong Country Returns videogame in Sydney. Inspire made this BIG idea come to life with their giant inflated screen next to the tower of fruit. This meant Sydneysiders were able to engage Donkey Kong in his latest adventure at a whole new level to match the monstrous banana display.

Media releases into key bargain hunting websites, online gaming pages as well as social media encouraged people to bring a bag and help themselves to as many bannanas as they could carry, with any remaining fruit being donated to OzHarvest. Needless to say, the people arrived in droves and the five metre high and 3 metre wide mound of yellow fruit was quickly reduced to nothing!

It’s true that apes like bananas and people love a spectacle, so Inspire produced an experiential marketing campaign like no other. The stunt generated countless media mentions and articles in game genre online hubs such as CNET Australia & GameSpot AU.
